The US Army has cancelled plans to acquire the 120 mm XM1160 High Explosive Guided Mortar (HEGM) munition that was expected to replace the service’s current XM395 precision-guided HE mortar round, an official from the US Army Contracting Command confirmed to Jane’s on 11 July.

The office of the Project Manager Combat Ammunition Systems (PM CAS), which is located at the Picatinny Arsenal facility in New Jersey, had intended to release a formal request for proposal (RFP) in the first quarter of fiscal year 2018 to support the engineering and manufacturing development phases of the programme as well as the low-rate and full-rate initial production options for the HEGM.
