The Republic of Korea Air Force (RoKAF) announced a plan on 10 May to modernise capabilities through the integration of Industry 4.0 technologies including automation, artificial intelligence (AI), and virtual reality.
RoKAF said in a press release that the ‘smart air power’ plan is intended to boost capability to meet future war-fighting requirements, introduce cost efficiencies, improve internal systems and procedures, and enhance the skill base of personnel.
The RoKAF also outlined several related tasks it wants to undertake in collaboration with local industry. These include projects to develop AI-based control systems, training and simulation systems based on virtual reality technologies, advanced sensors, AI-based control systems for unmanned aerial vehicles, and integrating new technologies into the RoKAF’s information and communications infrastructure.
