Poland will not buy new submarines before 2022, Wojciech Skurkiewicz, secretary of state in the Ministry of National Defense (MND), has said in response to a question from a member of the lower chamber of the Polish parliament, Adam Andruszkiewicz.

Skurkiewicz said Poland is currently in the process of decommissioning its Kobben-class submarines. The first boat, ORP Kondor, was withdrawn from service in December 2017, and ORP Sokół will be decommissioned in June 2018. This leaves Poland with just two outdated Kobben-class submarines as the Kilo-class ORP Orzeł has been awaiting repairs for months with no clear timeframe for when it will become operational again.
