With the CNO’s approval, the US Navy (USN) is now cleared to seek requests for proposals (RFPs) for the new vessel, officially called the future Guided Missile Frigate (FFG[X]). Sources familiar with the programme said the RFP will likely be sent out in November, although the USN declined to comment on the timing of the proposal requests.

“It would be inappropriate to comment on matters sensitive to the source selection process,” a USN spokesperson told Jane’s .
