The US Air Force (USAF) stepped up the use of air power in Afghanistan in August, releasing more ordnance than in any other month since August 2012, according to recently released data by US Air Forces Central Command (AFCENT).

The data show that USAF aircraft released a total of 503 weapons in August as part of the NATO-led 'Resolute Support' mission in the Central Asian country: an indication of the increased use of air support in an apparent effort to break what US commanders have referred to as the "stalemate" between Afghan and international troops on the one side and the insurgent groups operating in the country on the other.
