With a goal of eventually creating customised unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) designs for every mission, the US Marine Corps (USMC) developed a small quadcopter UAV that can be quickly produced using additive manufacturing and commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) components.

Captain Christopher Wood, director of innovation and next generation logistics (NEXTLOG) at headquarters Marine Corps installations and logistics, told Jane’s in a 11 September interview that to eventually reach its goal of custom UAVs for every mission, the USMC must start small.
