The Australian government will launch the pilot phase of a plan to increase engagement with local industry on defence procurement programmes in the coming months, Defence Minister Marise Payne announced on 31 August.

As part of the Local Industry Capability Plan bidders for major defence facilities projects will be required to outline how they plan to involve small companies.

The first projects to include the requirement will be the Explosive Ordnance Logistics Reform Program, the Shoalwater Bay Training Area Redevelopment, and the Townsville Field Training Area Mid-Term Refresh.
